Computer Forensics

Since 2008, JHUISI has been developing a concentration in digital forensics and its application to information security. The Computer Forensics courses provide students with a solid foundation in the forensic analysis of information in Windows memory and file systems, as well as an introduction to network forensics and malware analysis. Class projects include intrusion investigation techniques, smartphone forensics, RAM analysis, and monitoring satellite communications. In the Advanced Computer Forensics seminar students are guided into areas of active research in digital forensics and incidents response, including salvaging and reconstructing fragments of deleted files, augmenting Intrusion Detection Systems for forensic investigations, analyzing malware related to APT attacks, and performing in-depth forensic examination of smartphones.
